ENSTINET is a public information services organization. Its objectives is to assist Egyptian problem solvers and decision makers to access and apply quality data and relevant, current information to development.

ENSTINET provides the Egyptian research community with a full 24/7 online and onsite access to global information resources via the INTERNET.

On the local level, ENSTINET has been developing and maintaining local database for years. These databases contain both the literature published in Egypt in the field of science and technology, and directories to assist the researchers.

The completion of ENSTINET services sweet was through rending information services i.e. online Database searching. Document Delivery, Data development, Internet services, training, video conference ... etc. Additional important function of ENSTINET is education & training in the field of inforamtion.

In Jan 1980, the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT) has embarked, under a bilateral agreement with the U.S. Government, to establish a nationwide system of information services, aimed at ensuring availability and utilization of global recorded knowledge for the socioeconomic development of a Egypt. A two-phased effort was undertaken: a two-year systems analysis and design study, and a three-year system implementation, the former laid down the principles and specified a program of development of a national network of information services in five socioeconomic sectors in Egypt. The implementation of this design, completed in 1986, created the Egyptian National Scientific and Technical Information Network (ENSTINET), the first national information service in the region.
